IBM Rhapsody Model-Based Systems Engineering

What Rhapsody does

IBM Engineering Systems Design Rhapsody is a modeling tool for model-based systems and software engineering (MBSE). Teams use it to design complex systems in SysML and UML, check designs early through simulation, and generate code, all traced to the requirements that drive them. Alidade Technology helps you license Rhapsody, set up a modeling approach that scales, and connect it to the rest of IBM ELM.

  • Systems modeling with SysML: requirements, structure, behavior and interfaces captured in one consistent model
  • Software modeling with UML: architecture and detailed design for embedded and real-time software
  • Simulation and execution: run and test models early, before hardware or code exists
  • Code generation: generate C, C++, Java or Ada from models and keep model and code in sync
  • Traceability: link model elements to DOORS Next requirements and ETM tests
  • Documentation: generate design documents and reports straight from the model

How Alidade helps

As an IBM Business Partner and IBM ELM specialist, we support Rhapsody from licensing through to ongoing support.

  • Licensing: the right Rhapsody editions and license types through IBM.
  • MBSE adoption: modeling guidelines, profiles and templates so every team models the same way.
  • Integration: connecting Rhapsody to IBM DOORS Next, ETM and EWM, and setting up model management with Global Configuration Management.
  • Pilot projects: proving the approach on a real project before rolling out more widely.
  • Training: SysML, UML and Rhapsody training for systems engineers, software engineers and administrators.
  • Ongoing support through our ELM Managed Services.

Why model-based systems engineering?

Document-based design breaks down as systems get more complex. A single model shared across systems and software teams catches interface and logic errors earlier, makes impact analysis faster, and produces the design evidence that standards such as DO-178C and ISO 26262 call for.

Rhapsody models trace directly to IBM DOORS Next requirements and IBM Engineering Test Management tests, creating a digital thread from requirement to model to verification. Explore our ELM Consulting and Implementation services.

Part of a complete IBM ELM solution

  • IBM DOORS Next for requirements management

  • IBM Engineering Test Management (ETM) for test planning and execution

  • IBM Engineering Workflow Management (EWM) for planning, change and source control

  • IBM Global Configuration Management (GCM) for configuration across all of the above

  • ELM Consulting and Implementation services for complete rollouts
